Synergy Northwest is seeking to fill multiple forensic science positions in support of US Military Operations in Southwest Asia. Sought areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: latent fingerprints, DNA, biometrics, chemistry (explosive compounds), firearms, ballistics and tool marks, hair/trace fibers, laboratory/forensic photography, electronic circuitry, evidence intake and tracking, case management, laboratory management, database management, and other forensic laboratory-related positions. Employment period is six months, with the possibility of continued employment based on performance and availability. Job sites are in US-occupied conflict areas, living in austere conditions, working in direct support of US combat forces. Candidates must possess, or be eligible for, DoD-issued security clearances at the "Secret" or higher level. Compensation for these positions ranges from $350/day to $800/day. Forensic Geneticist II

The Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office Department of Forensic Genetics is seeking to fill a two year Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Grant funded Forensic Geneticist II supervisory position. A Master's degree in Genetics, Biology, Chemistry, or Forensic Science, including coursework in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, and population genetics is required. Candidates must also possess a minimum of three years of satisfactory experience performing forensic DNA analysis in connection with criminal investigations or databanking for criminal offenders using Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analytical techniques. Prior employment in a supervisory capacity is preferred but not mandatory. The District of Columbia Pretrial Services Agency is seeking applicants for the position of Chemist (Forensics) or Toxicologist (Forensics), Laboratory Director. The Laboratory Director directs and manages all activities of the Laboratory which performs the full range of forensic drug testing and directs the implementation of systems and processes for the collection of urine samples to detect drug use in adult clients and defendants and juvenile respondents. The Director is responsible for policies and procedures that comply with chain of custody, compliance and other relevant court and legal requirements relating to individuals being tested. Explains and defends complex scientific protocols and procedures, laboratory data, drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodymanics. Provides expert consultation and lectures to external agencies and visiting delegations and represents PSA and other parts of the Agency in a variety of scientific, legal and community forums.

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualification for this position must, you must have: Chemistry Series: (A) Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; OR Combination of education and experience—course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education AND One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Toxicology Series: Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology AND One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience in direction of forensic testing operations and expertise in pharmacokinetic where court testimony was a frequent requirement

Duties/Responsibilities
The Chief of Forensic Sciences is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising and reviewing the activities of the State’s forensic laboratories located in Providence, RI, including Forensic Biology (DNA)/CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), Drug Chemistry and Toxicology, as well as the Breath Analysis (DUI) program. The Chief of Forensic Sciences is responsible for the oversight of the quality system in the Forensic Sciences section, including technical review, internal audits, procedure sign-off and the investigation/resolution of corrective actions.

Education/Experience
Education: Such as may have been gained through possession of a Doctorate Degree in Chemistry or a related Biological Science and, Experience: Such as may have been gained through employment in a professional laboratory position involving the performance of administrative and/or supervisory duties in directing a large forensic laboratory section or program.

To be compliant with NAME accreditation standards, the Chief should possess a doctorate in Chemistry or related science to be eligible for certification by ABFT or ABCC.

Consultant Services – Forensic Firearms/Technical Leader

The NYPD is soliciting proposals for Forensic Firearms/ Technical Leader services for its Police Laboratory Firearms Analysis Section. Services would include: (1) technical guidance to analysts doing casework in firearms operability and microscopic comparisons of ballistic evidence; (2) collaboration with the Laboratory Training Coordinator regarding remedial training programs in aforementioned technical areas; (3) case analysis, processing and microscopy examination when needed; and (4) Criminal and Civil Court testimony. Both individuals and other entities (e.g., corporations, partnerships, etc.) may propose. A 3-year contract is anticipated, and 1000 total Consultant hours are estimated per contract year, but could vary according to need.

The Firearms and Tool Marks Examiner will conduct forensic examinations of firearms and tool marks on crime related evidence, identify the microscopic markings left on evidence in criminal investigations and how they relate to firearms or tools that made these markings, conducts complete scientific test if firearms evidence using laboratory equipment, prepares documentation and reports on the results of the collection and analysis of evidence.

Principal duties and responsibilities: process various types of evidence for latent prints; conduct examination of lead and other metal fragments, bullets, ammunition components and firearms; examination of tool marks as having been produced by a particular tool; conduct shot pattern and gunshot residue examinations; conduct trajectory analysis and the collection, preservation and processing of evidence and event reconstruction; prepare detailed reports on processes performed and results; train personnel in the area of latent prints; maintain and document the chain of custody of evidence; prepare detailed reports on processes performed and results; and collect and preserve possible DNA evidence.

Must be a highly qualified Firearms and Tool Marks Examiner with at least five (5) years experience. Must have been the lead of a team of firearms and tool mark analysts at least one (1) year. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Must be AFTE certified and possess organizational skills. Possess the ability to teach classes and brief information pertaining to processing of Firearms and ammunition components. Have experience processing evidence with chemicals in a laboratory setting. Be physically able and willing to rotationally deploy to either Iraq or Afghanistan a minimum of six months a year. Be able to obtain a US Military secret clearance and US Passport. Must be a US Citizen.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Laboratory has an immediate opening for an experienced firearms examiner. The laboratory is currently accredited under the ASCLD/LAB Legacy system and is preparing for an ASCLD/LAB International (ISO) assessment in April 2010. The laboratory serves approximately 43 police agencies in a region of about 1 million people. Job responsibilities include the normal microscopic comparison of firearms evidence, operation of the NIBIN/IBIS terminal, toolmark comparisons, distance determinations, serial number restorations, function tests, court testimony and training law enforcement personnel. This position does NOT involve GSR (primer residues) analyses, footwear/tiretrack comparisons, or crime scene processing. Normal working hours are 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday with no “On-call.” The examiner will join a staff of two other firearms examiners. The examiner will be required to comply with safety, quality control, and other administrative criteria of the ASCLD/LAB accreditation program. Applicants must possess a master’s degree from an accredited academic institution in the field of biological, chemical or forensic science with earned credits in genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as statistics and/or population genetics as it applies to forensic DNA analysis.
